How do you stay current?

Not just politically but culturally also.

I don't enjoy feeling left out of the loop but scrolling through twitter and reddit is too soykaffy and time wasting.

When it comes to the political side of things it seems most people only post sources that cater to whichever ideology they already hold. Almost every news giant is surrounded with skepticism and distrust. I'm hoping to find some small number of outlets to shape a balanced perspective on what's going on.

So instead of being fed by big outlets with their big agendas you want to be fed by smaller ones?

Please understand that no outlet is un-biased. Some agencies are funded by governments - all you going to get is propaganda. Smaller outlets will lean and bend the truth too. You can, of course, amass as much sources as you can and mix the view on particular situation and just eat it (with a bag of salt)

I prefer human sources. If I cannot find eye-witnesses of the event among people I know and can trust, I simply give up on truth.

I go up to winos downtown and say "whaddya hear?". They always have the scoop, whether it's local, international or, especially, interstellar / transdimensional politics. The bums are the true media.

Alternative media, usually some blogger or a guy with a webcam in his basement. Funny how a guy with a laptop and a webcam can provide higher quality news that some multi-million dollar news actor. The mainstream media is dying and I'm loving it.

Idk about the bottom two, but state run propaganda pushers from Russia and Qatar aren't good news sources.

If you look at Western mainstream media all you can expect is gov't propaganda.

It's interesting that BBC is further left than many mainstream US organizations. It may be due to the political landscape in their own country.
I've been relying more on BBC because I had this notion that foregin organizations wouldn't have as much investment in US partisanship though that may have been wishful thinking.

>So instead of being fed by big outlets with their big agendas you want to be fed by smaller ones?
I meant a small list of sites not literally small organizations themselves.

>>3318
How big are they? Because I've noticed popular personalities on Youtube are exploiting ad revenue by using exaggerated stories and constantly pushing a "us vs them" mentality.

Fuck RT. It's worse than any member of the U.S. MSM.
But I do like Al Jazeera, and they're just as bad.

A few of my personal faves:
https://theintercept.com/
Glenn Greenwald and Co's post snowden site. Less news and more opinion pieces/write ups.

http://www.bloomberg.com/
I like Bloomberg business, one of the best business sites out there, though it does have its obvious biases.

https://www.techinasia.com/
Exactly what it sounds like.

https://www.techdirt.com/
It's just fun.

http://www.nakedcapitalism.com/
Good reads about economics.

http://al-bab.com/
Arab secular news. It's not the best site, but it's interesting.

Polar opposites ik. Both have views I agree/disagree with.
Reading from both circles should be encouraged, not condoned.

Seeking diverse views doesn't mean you need to consume garbage. Doing so means you're missing out better sources of information since intake is finite.

The chart doesn't show that those sources are biased (though bias does exist), it shows respondents that identify as conservatives choose relatively poor sources of information. Notice how there are few reputable outlets on the right?

I fully agree with >>3494. Better choices would be jacobinmag.com and breitbart, for fairly accurate and less-garbage representations of the far left and right respectively.
