David Divtech's latest release is very close to "Electronic Hardcore Punk". The two oldest works on the list above are definitely Breakcore. "Rise With The Tide" stands stylewise somewhere between "Machines Of Decay" & "Stasis Confines, Action Conditions".

I doubt you'll ever see this, but...

Which watery synth tones in particular? You're right to start with additive synths if you're trying to get close to a lot of this stuff (at least to my ear), but keep in that there's a lot of post processing going on in this track. Also, theres a couple of neat synth tones in general.

At the beginning of the track:
(I'm pretty sure there's a sample of Just Like You Imagined in there)
The drums while the drone is panning left and right is some phase inversion stuff and what seems like some time stretching (its doing some formant shifting, which is why I say that in general)

After that, there's a drop. I assume you're talking specifically about that arpy, blippy stuff that runs through this section. Now, there's a couple ways to get that sound, but I think there's really just more INSANE levels of time stretching going on. First off, you want some pretty exotic filters. At around 1:45, there's this wide delay, and I think that the tone there is actually the tone of that arp synth. If you were to make that synth, then you have a couple of options that you should try:

-Band filters (Band pass, band reject, comb filters, all with a lot of automation)

-Frequency and formant shifting

-Time stretching

So, what I would do is this: play around with comb filters and frequency shifting. Get a good, blippy synth. Realize that you're gonna be doing a lot of this stuff OUTSIDE of a synth, largely.

Beyond that, some of these noises seem like the could be coming out of an image synth, like https://ojack.github.io/PIXELSYNTH/ but with way more antialiasing.

I think Year Zero by Nine Inch Nails has a very strong cyberpunk theme, both musically and lyrically.

It's a concept album about a future America that has become a dystopian, theocratical police state. A resistance group called Art is Resistance tries to fight against the system by subversion and by sending messages to the present-day internet.

There is also a schway Alternate Reality Game (ARG) which is based on the album.

Teams was a producer that took hold of the seapunk aesthetic when it was a thing (2012-2013) Star Slinger is a little bit more accessible. The beats they throw at each other are insane though

Rape is a pretty serious accusation, and while I know it isn't always the case, I would imagination if their was a sexual element to it, she'd have gone to the Police about it.

Otherwise, "an abusive relationship" can almost mean many different things; Alice is pretty pissed off that that Ethan said he basically did 95% of the work in Crystal Castles and could basically replace her without missing a beat. So the word "Abusive" can just mean Ethan and Alice really didn't get along and she feels Ethan is a prick.

I'm not here to trip over myself to defend Ethan but calling him a rapist and calling for boycotts of his music is a bit over the top when all we have to go off is innuendo.

Call him what you want between rapist or abuser or whatever else, I think it's pretty clear what was going on and it makes a lot of things Alice would do (like disappearing randomly and running away during shows) make sense. She was what, 15 when crystal castles started? Ethan was probably fuarrrking her then and given that she would quickly have had nowhere else to go that's not exactly consensual.

>>2748
I'm so pissed off that he had to be a scumbag. In the alternate universe where male punks aren't all in it to exploit women, there are gonna be so many amazing crystal castles albums. We're stuck with this trash. At least Alice's solo stuff is good.

Not necessarily /cyb/, but punk. It's the same duo that was featured in that watch dogs 2 trailer. Don't necessarily let that dissaude you though, the irony of that trailer is that the first sentence ("fascist slaves, protesting to get in a fuarrrking look book") is literally the plot and overarching goal of the game. Ubi didn't know what they were touching, they just saw the edge.

I absolutely agree. Punk culture in general revolves around you doing you. I feel that, at least for me, DG occupies an emotional and musical niche that no other artist really touches, IMO. There's something primal about the music that they make that just draws me in more and more every time I listen.

Andy's production is just so unique. It's harsh and abrasive, but it's still music. He's been toeing the line between signal and noise for 7 albums now, I think it's safe it say that "skilled" and "creative" don't even begin to describe him.

I don't really know anything about Zach, except that I have found his drums to be persistently fascinating. He is frequently credited with Andy for production on DG albums, which speaks to his artistic ability.

Then there is Stefan. Where to start? Maybe the raw passion and energy that he shares with his people when he's on stage. Or the way that he obfuscates all his ideas and pairs them with his unorthodox flow, at once nimble and assertive, producing in a surprising synergy and a sound that reminds me of absolutely nobody.

Death Grips doesn't sound like other bands, other bands sound like Death Grips.

PC Music feel like the synthesis of underground 90s rave scenes and the equally misunderstood nsync lmao, which dialectically makes them perfect for each other. It's great to see breakcore, glitch, juke etc seamlessly mixed with pop.

Danny and Cook are megaqt 2.

GFOTY had a excellent recent release:

Cook does god-tier vocals:

YES!

Love that album, I used to hear it a lot, although I think Neu! 2 and the side B of Neu! 75 are more cyb

In the not-too-distant-future, we will all listen to atonal chin-strokey garbage music. BUT ITS MADE BY MACHINES!!

Serious question: Do you ever (even for a moment) catch yourself asking, "why the hell to I listen to this garbage?" You should.

There's actually a huge variety of stuff posted here and most of it doesn't fit that description at all. Did you just assume everyone here listens to Metzbow or what?

Pic related is out now:

I've just uploaded the compilation to the lainchan volafile room. Let's see if this is any good, I still haven't checked it out yet. This year's track submission started, too. You can consider to send some of your own cyberesque material, lainons.

Not exactly cyberpunk in the traditional sense, but the Doom Remix project has some pretty shway tunes.

Evoke - Relic
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=6C-2sqj1x9E

Relic has some cyberpunk themes and jams in the vein of 90's sounding industrial. Seen them live before and they had some stellar backing viz/light show. Interested to see what they put out over time

I've posted this in IRC before now but not on the board:

I made this a short while ago. It's not strictly cyberpunk but that's a definite theme in mainly the first four tracks.
It's split up into segments each with a common style to them, all of it is electronic.

Gut gemacht, Lain.

Get this out there on YouTube or something. Make some neat visuals and I can see this amassing a decent following.

Thanks :)
I've considered uploading stuff to YouTube but it never seemed like the ideal place for it. I'm not that good with video myself. Still, something to consider I suppose.

Felt like playing around with some ffmpeg filters. Seems like there's a huge potential with ffmpeg if you know what you're doing. Unfortunately I have no clue what I'm doing. :D

Do any lains listen to Tzusing? His debut album is /cyb/ as fuarrk.

Hey that's pretty schway lainon. Nice one!
Is there a guide or similair for doing stuff like this? ffmpeg's dauntingly large documentation always instills fear into me.

I knew the artist from the Elect-LO-nica compilation album. Which is free I may add.
Good stuff.

Thanks. There's not really. Not that I could find anyway. I cobbled it together from these three pages mostly.
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/FancyFilteringExamples
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/FilteringGuide
https://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html

Found the most difficult part getting the syntax and all the inputs and outputs to map properly. It doesn't always seem clear how many there are and how to address them, especially when some are implied or you use a ';' when you needed a ',' in your filter complex. The errors given aren't much help here.

Here's what I did:
  #SPLIT CHANNELS
ffmpeg -y -i outside2.flac -filter_complex "[0:a]channelsplit[a1][a2]" -map [a1] left.flac -map [a2] right.flac

#TOP
ffmpeg -y -threads 8 -filter_complex 'amovie=right.flac, showspectrum=color=intensity:scale=cbrt:orientation=vertical:slide=scroll:overlap=1:s=1280x360' -c:v libx264 right.mkv

#BOTTOM (Needs to be flipped)
ffmpeg -y -threads 8 -filter_complex 'amovie=left.flac, showspectrum=color=intensity:scale=cbrt:orientation=vertical:slide=scroll:overlap=1:s=1280x360, vflip' -c:v libx264 left.mkv

#VSTACK
ffmpeg -y -i left.mkv -i right.mkv -threads 8 -filter_complex [1][0]vstack[out] -map [out] -c:v libx264 stacked.mkv

#BLEND
ffmpeg -y -i netrunner.png -i stacked.mkv -filter_complex '[0][1]blend=all_mode=negation' blended.mkv
If I could properly grasp the ins and outs for the filter complex this could probably be done in one line. I'd have liked to do more with it but I got tired.
