ITT: we post awesome ps2 games we really enjoy. This thread serves as a recommendation list for PCSX2 users who emulate the games.

>pics related, my favorite 3 ps2 games.

I've been thinking of playing another run of San Andreas soon.. what a fuarrrking classic game.

Dark Cloud 1 and 2
Dragon Quest VIII
Gitaroo Man
Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams
Steambot Chronicles
all the Shadowhearts games
all the Shin Megami Tensei games

If you only play one of these, then play Gitaroo Man.

That and Vice City were my favorite. I have actually not played 4 or 5.

I would like to play GTASA again, but my computer for some reason can't run it decently on PCSX2. I'm currently about 2 hours into a replay of FF12 anyway though.

You could probably run the PC port fine on Wine, the PC port is arguably better than PS2, imo.

I'm already on Windows 10.

The Game we all want >pic related

I really love the Tenchu games.
The assassin's creed games are a joke compared to them

I've never heard of this. I will certainly be checking this out.

Not really sure why you would want to play a bunch of emulated console games that were ported to PC but ok.

Dead or alive 2 boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

File: 1485065261507.png (103.28 KB, 127x200, HackGames.jpg)

I would definitely recommend the dot hack series.

And then you have the G.U trilogy
.hack//G.U. Vol. 1//Rebirth
.hack//G.U. Vol. 2//Reminisce
.hack//G.U. Vol.3//Redemption

Good games and story and you can complement with the anime.

Because GTA SA doesn't have native controller support on PC.

>a bunch

But GTA SA is the only ported game I mentioned.

I really expected people to comment on this :/

File: 1485066281507.png (46.42 KB, 200x67, 1484544026412.png)

I dig it but I think it's missing something important

> having the free time to replay games

I really liked these games but the cycle of maxing out weapons for everyone got kind of tiring and trying to find the rest of them is a pain last I checked.

Well, I was a child of the PS2 era (bless its 128-bit processor), so here goes:

Ratchet and Clank (the entire trilogy)
Jak & Daxter
Jak 2
Kingdom Hearts
Katamari Damacy
SSX Tricky
Sly 2: Band of Thieves (insert crazy fanboy rant here)
Kingdom Hearts
Shadow of the Colussus
God of War

And while we're at it, I may as well mention my favorite PS1 game: Spyro 3. But that's possibly nostalgia talking.

The Spyro trilogy was amazing, I truly loved them all! I have never played the ps2 games though.

Well, I did include Kalyxx's message to re-buy the site. Does that count?

No one mentioned Gran Turismo 4, Stunt GP, LOK: Soul Reaver 2 and Silent Hill series, i'm utterly disappointed.

Also Red Faction, Psychonauts and Rayman 2 and 3, but these are not exlusives, you can play them on PC natively.

BTW, Ys series is much better than FF, i couldn't really enjoy any game from the FF franchise

Protip: Don't.

Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly is one of the most disapointing games I've ever played.

Basically, the series went to soykaf when Insomniac left to go do Ratchet & Clank.

How is PS2 emulation nowadays?

Never got it running (my graphics card was too soykaf last I tried), but reports say that it runs fairly well on most machines.

Better than PS3/X360, worse than GCN or PS1.

My recommendations are the Shin Megami Tensei games. Most of them are /cyb/ as fuarrrk.
Also, i lost an unholy ammount of time playing Guitar Hero.

It mostly depends on the game. I have a gaming rig and there're games that i can run at 60 fps flawlessly and some others that don't work after the first logo screen

Was kinda hoping I could play reasonably well on my new but low-end computer. I guess not.

>My recommendations are the Shin Megami Tensei games.

I played the PSP version on a emulator and couldn't get the appeal. Gameplay is boring and so is the story. Only cool thing about it was the suicide-transformation thing.

Is Ape Escape any good? I love when Om draws this girl from the game.

fuarrrking loved this game.

Too bad it got below average scores on the US review sites : /

BTW, did anyone play PS2 online? Call of Duty Finest Hour/Big Red One/3, Desert Storm Black Hawk Down, SOCOM, Metal Gear Online, Resident Evil Outbreak, ect..

It is. Also, AA is a PS1 game, so you should be able to emulate it easily. Later AAs were on PS2, though.

If your computer has a new graphics card, you might have some luck. For perspective, my card was from '06, and was rubbish then.

I had trouble running some 2D games.

I play GTA-SA on pc with a PS1 gamepad (with a PSX to USB adapter) just fine. It also works in Wine with a generic controller. Version 1.0 (for SA-MP) for the record, newer versions may have removed support. A friend of mine even managed to get his racing wheel to work. The only caveat I have found is that you have to switch between either "keyboard + mouse" or "gamepad" in the options which can make things a little annoying.

It is in almost every way. Draw distance is greater, fewer slowdowns, fewer bugs. Plus with the PC version you can get all sorts of high resolution mods and gameplay enhancements if you are into that sort of thing. I use a mod that uncaps the framerate too, as normally it is capped to 30 just like the console version which as you could imagine is tolerable but not ideal. Not to mention Multi Theft Auto and GTA San Andreas Multiplayer which are both far superior to the half-assing Rockstar did with GTA Online.

The only games I would really consider emulating on the PS2 are the Gran Turismo series, as those never did get a pc port. I am currently playing GT2 on real PS1 hardware (original machine from my late childhood) and never did get to play the PS2 versions.

I dont know about the PS2 versions but the PS1 version was a lot of fun. It is sorta like Spyro and Mario64 if you like that sort of thing.

>It is sorta like Spyro and Mario64 if you like that sort of thing.

Except not as good. If I had to choose between AA and Spyro 3, I would choose Spyro 3 before you finished asking, because it's that good. And because I'm a massive fanboy.

Do play AA, but it shouldn't be as high on your priorities as other big PS1/PS2 titles.

In particular, any PS1/PS2 game by Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Team Ico, or From Software should probably take precedence. None of these teams should need any introduction, and most of their games are stupidly good.

And yes, From Software made games before Dark Souls. Crazy, right?

Fantavision is really beautiful and fun to play with friends.
Killer 7 is a great-looking shooter with a really bizarre story.
And of course, the Katamari games are amazing.

GTA:SA defines that entire period for me, the cover still makes me feel excited. ps2 is the last point in time where games were games.

That was also, I would argue, one of the last generations where consoles existed as consoles.

Many see this generation as the one where the console died, citing backwards-compatible upgrades. But gradual upgrades and religious backwards compatability aren't core factors of a PC - a Speccy won't run ZX80 or BBC micro software, and those are all Personal Computers.

A console, I would argue, is a machine whose design, architecture, and software was pupose-built for gaming specifically, at the expense of all else, and highly optimized for it as a result. In newer consoles, this usually means the CPU/GPU and co-processors are specially designed. In older consoles, this usually manifested as hardware sprites, and similar hardware features.

The Xbox, and later the 360 and XBOne, were all essentially PCs with some fancy software, and slight hardware differences, trading the ability to swap out components for speed. The same applies to the PS4.

The PS3 could go either way, but I'm inclined to say it was console by the above definition - look at the Cell.

The PS2, however, definitely was. The Graphics Synthesizer was designed for the express, single purpose of pushing polygons, and it shows in the design. Much the same is true of the Emotion Engine, which has the assumption that you'll be doing 3D graphics built in. You can use it for other purposes, of course, it's a CPU. But it will help you a lot if you do.

Killer7 is awesome, man

Sayaka is only on the third one though, isn't it?

Aren't they PS1? But yes Tenchu is Great!

There's Fatal Shadows and Wrath of Heaven.
I like Fatal shadows, the story is better and it has no supernatural elements.
