Firefox: Install DownThemAll plugin.

Right click page to open context menu.
Select "DownThemAll".
Enter "*.pdf" in the fast filter box.
Select a destination directory.
Then click "start" or "add paused" to queue up many downloads.

All PDF files downloaded. Larger files downloads will also be accelerated (if server supports DL resume) by opening multiple connections to different parts of the file. This speeds up downloads because ISP throttling works on a per TCP/IP connection basis. If you notice the speed get throttled after a few minues, you can pause the download, then resume to gain more speed again (this is due to ISP "bursting" plans, whereby they allow the first n megabytes to download quickly thus accelerating web pages, and trick you into thinking you got a higher constant speed than you do).

The Harper's Magazine article is about a vacation cruise ship. It's by David Foster Wallace and I think it was later republished in A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again.

Very funny. IMO it's a palletable but very thoughtful examination of the middle class mindset.

Here's a study that shows a correlation between having a large vocabulary of "taboo" words, and having a large vocabulary in general. In other words, the common wisdom theory of "people that swear a lot are dumb) is completely false.

The PDF was obtained by requesting it from the author. I've actually had good luck getting articles from the author, so that's one more thing to try when facing a paywall.

Does anyone have pdfs for Mechademia journal issues 1-10? The journal's focused on analyzing anime/manga from a very cyberpunk POV.

I've seen a torrent floating around of the complete University of Minnesota Press publications. It should be in there if anyone has it downloaded - or I can pull it myself if anyone can point me to the torrent.

Joseph Campbell: Well, as I said, all you have to do is read the newspapers. It's a mess. On this immediate level of life and structure, myths offer life models. But the models have to be appropriate to the time in which you are living, and our time has changed so fast that what was proper fifty years ago is not proper today. The virtues of the past are the vices of today. And many of what were thought to be the vices of the past are the necessities of today. The moral order has to catch up with the moral necessities of actual life in time, here and now. And that is what we are not doing. The old-time religion belongs to another age, another people, another set of human values, another universe. By going back you throw yourself out of sync with history. Our kids lose their faith in the religions that were taught to them, and they go inside.

English language, how to read latin alphabet and everything and anything that one would learn on the track for PhD in philosophy or social sciences, because let's be honest here - these books are always self-indulgent. I'm talking out of my ass now, because I didn't read it, but quick look reveals that for example they're throwing word "biopolitical" around. Biopolitics is very loaded term coined by Michel Foucault. They explain it a little. Do you need to know more to read it? It could be helpful, but if you don't want to write critical paper about it I don't think so. My advice is to just read things and research things you don't understand. Do it again and again and you will have less and less to research. Then maybe one day you'll be able to take up graduate level book in any number of topics and won't have to research anything while reading. It was once called erudition and there is no other way to achieve it, but I think we can all agree that with unlimited Internet access it is easier than ever.

I was curious about that book because there seem to be no advanced books on linuks internals out there. That is the closest, along with O'Reilly's 'Understanding the Linux kernel'.
I looked at the contents and I realized that the book is more on the intermediate level.
That's kind of why I moved to the BSDs

You can synthesize DMT from Indole and propyldimethyl amine which can be made easily from propyl (not isopropyl) alcohol, methanol and ammonia. Indole can be isolated from coal tar alternatively it can be synthesized from benzyl amine and ethylene glycol.

what I found very useful is the do/k/ument, which actually contains a big amount of 'skills and DIY' related content.
The only thing that I still havent found is cookbooks, for some reason theyre so hard to found, maybe it is because im not really on par with the cooking world.

you don't need cookbooks. you need recipes which you can find in ungodly amounts all over the internet. just imagine any food you might want to do, and start reading recipes and tweak them etc to build up your taste and skill. I have read about a hundred different recipes of just one dish and tweaked them for about 2-3 months to find the perfect PERFECT recipe. your equipment, ingredient quality etc are going to be different than what the recipe is written for anyways so you will have to tinker with it in order to make it better anyways.
