No.3909

Hello anons of Lainchan,

I and many others would like to own a physical copy of the Lainzine.
This is made much more affordable if we buy in bulk

The prices in the picture are from the current provider however this may subject to change.
The prices may fluctuate depending on the amount of people interested in this group buy.

There are not many details currently available, as we still have to verify:
-how many people are interested in each volume
-what printer we will use
Therefore I cannot tell you a concrete price.

We are also thinking of making a small donation to the team creating the Lainzines.

If you would also like a copy there is a telegram chat you can join below.
Once you have joined state your:
-country
-currency
-volumes you want

*** Current prices given by the provider - Blurb.co.uk
*** Exchange rate not based on market rate

At what point is the next price break (how many orders do you have to have for the unit price to drop lower)?

Unfortunately at 50 magazines.
But you can order a single volume if all three is too much, however remember this may only be a one time thing.

Also the price has changed due to mistakes in my calculations as the provider doesnt include shipping and VAT in the price.
Sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

You might want to do a KickStarter or GoFundMe so you're not out like hundreds of dollars. I'd say I want a copy of each of them, but that's kind of a soft 'yes' from me.

that would be some nice insurance...
I will look into that however i will have to charge more due to 10% kickstarter charge.
I think people will just have to trust me.

What exactly is the demand that you're unable to fill without a group funding?

How many people are going without? I think it would be nicer to get those numbers up holistically. If you can't get more than 10 people to buy a magazine, this seems absurd.

Update:
Prices are much lower than originally expected to be.
You will find an update in the picture.
We currently have 16 buyers but more could lower the price.
More information coming soon.

The original Lainzine will include a bonus back-cover due to it having an odd number of pages, an even number is needed for magazine printing.

Hi update!
New spreadsheet

The current deadline is for when we reach 50 orders.

mostly for binding reasons. the first two lainzines are too small for good binding so you just end up with the shitty type of binding. join the telegram group if you want to inquire about getting 3 separate.
i personally think all three is a much better idea, considering that the first two are super short. what kind of magazine only has 33 pages?

  No.3988

How long is this going on for?

  No.3990

I have a few problems with the physical version of lainzine will be handled.

There are many hotlinks embedded in the page, are you going to correct these inline links so they point to URLs in the footnotes?

additionally, the lainzine makes reference to a few files that are hosted on lainchan.org among other sites. An example of this is on page 32 in the article "Making Nusic from Noise". https://lainchan.org/~darkengine/mmres.mp3 .
Would it be possible ship the lainzine with a CD or some other digital media that has all the files the zine makes reference to?

The reason I ask is because I want a physical copy of this to be completely timeless and I don't want links like that to not work anymore. I understand this may add to the cost but it would still be cool.

  No.3994

>>3990
im gonna take a guess and say many people may not be happy about/interested in the added price of that. one thing i think would be cool though, is if we just compiled those files/etc into an image, so we could burn it to our own CDs or usb.

  No.3995

>>3994
Fair enough, but I still think certain pages should be edited to have reference URLs included in some way. An example of this being a problem is on page 36 of lainzine 3 where the article ends with
>For more information, see this post.
where 'this post' links to this: http://ensorcel.org/what-is-ensorcel/
If this was in printed media, I would have no way to 'click' this link.

For printing issue 3 I have uploaded a 3mm bleed version of the PDF to /f/

This will allow print right to the edges and beyond, the paper is then cut to exactly A4 to give a perfect finish.

Pretty sure any printing site will do that automatically. I'm more worried about aspect ratio. When I went to print my copy of lz3, blurb wanted to add white bars to the sides of each page (including the center of the zine) to pad it out. I had to write a script that would put the bars on alternating sides each page then re-generate the pdf. I didn't add the 3mm bleed and it came out perfectly without it. I double checked beforehand to make sure there was no text in the outer 5mm just in case though.

  No.4073

>>4072

>Pretty sure any printing site will do that automatically. I'm more worried about aspect ratio.

No it is not possible for them to add the bleed... (that requires image data outside the standard A4 area) all they could do is expand the standard A4 page by say 104%... if this is not designed into the layout then things like page numbers and edges can get cut or become visually close to the edge of page.

The final trim size is designed for A4
printed at 100%. The printers should be able to add any binding area accordingly (should it be spiral bound). But any extra area added over 3mm will be blank!

The "normal" no bleed issue 3 is best set for screen and home printing (i.e. where you will not print over size and then trim down to A4/3).

Best way to do this zine is to impose pages (printers can do this bit) with bleed to double sided SRA3 and then trim, fold, staple the spine - Tidy!

Pages on 120gsm matte
Cover/rear on 270gsm Gloss

Zines 1+2 may not quite setup the same way?

It would be much cheaper at a local print shop or some university college printer (the student run kind that prints lab notes and soykaf like that). Would likely only cost a couple of dollars and they should be able to bind it nicely into a little book too.

Places like kinko's or office depot don't really give a soykaf so you'll end up with just a stack of loose papers at 100x times the price.

How about publishing them on Amazon ?
