Thank you for supporting our beloved incarnation of Lain! 東芝神を愛しましょう!

In terms of Japanese music, I mostly listen to Japanese progressive rock, enka, and soukyoku. I secondarily like city pop, Japanese picopop, shibuya-kei, and regional folk music. My taste is determinately in flux so I don't readily assign favorites, but I have a deepseated sense of respect for Otomo Yoshihide, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Masahiko Sato, Taeko Onuki, Akiko Yano, Masayuki Takayanagi, Yamasoykafa Tatsuro, Tatsuya Yoshida, Casiopea, Jun Togawa, Chakra, Ryo Fukui, Yuu Miyake, Katsuhiko Maeda, Ryoji Ikeda, and Yukiko Okada.

I like the bulk of P-Model's discography but I'm not particularly fond of linked track.

Do you have a RYM account?

Also chiding myself for using the honorary order for Japanese names in this case because I used conventional English order for all other listed artists.

You guys shoul listen to Zazen Boys, a post number girl project of it's guitarist, it's more experimental and rhythmically complex (you could even consider them math rock, or at least in their latest albums) but they're awesome.

Wonderful thread! Some old favourites and stuff I've never heard before in here.

I first started listening to Japanese music when I was a 12-year old developing weeb listening to the Japan-a-Radio stream in Winamp. The family computer was old and I would always have to pause and let it buffer. What I find interesting is that as my taste has expanded significantly over the years, my favourite albums for a particular genre are from quite often from Japan.

Here are some gems I've found over the years. Its diverse, so hopefully there is something for everyone.

I like Seiko Matsuda a lot but I actually enjoy her recent stuff more than her classic albums. Check this out: https://youtu.be/eI9UiuWcvJ0

Akina Nakamori (https://youtu.be/AMCRPkAiflY) is kind of the opposite. Her 80's work is good to great (try her album "Fushigi") and most of her releases since then sound kind of tired to me, although I do love the album of enka covers she did about ten years go.
