New to ricing, so sorry for such a simple question, but: How do I get i3wm to have those gaps? Many people say i3-gaps, but I seen many desktops that just use i3 to achieve the same effect.

Got set up on funtoo once again. Haven't done much other than restore my old .Xresources, .bashrc, i3/config and a few others. Also MoC is awesome, works better than foobar2000 for me because I can more easily play music based on file structure. I didn't realize until I tried foobar again.
Also, currently running the debian kernel but fear not for I have my old fully custom kernelconf backed up in case I need support for a controller and proprietary drivers.

Guys let's make this a 'Rice general'.
Also let's follow the new rules that say that you should at least superficially comment on your own rice.

Anyways, pic related is mine.

It is current Debian Testing with i3wm. I also installed LXDE on it just to have a display manager and accompanying tools. In the upper right corner you can see NetworkManager because it's what I am most comfy with.

Here's my i3conf:
https://pastebin.com/byej3S2N

Tell me if you want i3status conf or the scripts used in my i3conf.

Personally, I'd prefer to stay away from the /x general/ meme, as a rule of thumb. I do, however, like the idea of a more active discussion about ricing - i.e., a dotfiles thread that is more about sharing your custom confit files. If you make the thread, I'd definitely share some files.

As an aside, when someone on IRC suggested a dual desktop/battlestation thread, applebro expressed his preference for the two to be separate.

  No.174

the status bar is just i3status with some tweaks and extras

firstly get py3status installed:
https://github.com/ultrabug/py3status

the weather "app" is a py3status module called weather_yahoo:
https://py3status.readthedocs.io/en/latest/modules.html#weather-yahoo

i set i3status to use font awesome which is where the icons are from. i just copied the appropriate icons from their site in to my i3status.conf:
